THE VISA BANK OF THE FUTURE UI/UX CHALLENGE

Your teams mission: design the future bank. This is your chance to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to design a banking and payment app – to create a fresh user experience, combining insights, ingenuity and a toolbox of innovation all enabled by Visa and Visa Developer APIs.

The bank of the future will need to constantly adapt and accommodate new innovations. The interface you design will not only shape consumer experience, but also human behaviour as users adopt and adapt to new technology. The finished product will cleverly integrate innovative and disruptive technologies into the design for a mobile banking and payment app that feels intuitive and effortless.

The winning team of this competition will collect the top cash prize of $15,000, and potentially a chance to work with Visa to build a prototype of the Team’s Submission with the Visa Developer Program.

THE AUDIENCE

The final four teams will have the opportunity to present in front of the brightest global fintech innovators. This is an international roster of top decision makers and influencers from the financial services and fintech industries – and potentially your future employers or clients.

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE

  • Campus Linked Accelerators / Incubators
  • PHD candidates, MBA candidates and undergraduates
  • Regional Innovation Centres
  • UI/UX specialists and designers

THE TEAMS

Teams should be made up of a multidisciplinary group of individuals – a healthy mix of the right and left brain. Teams should be made up of at least 4 team members and a maximum of 6.

 

THERE ARE 6 MAIN COMPONENTS

Personas

Create a summary of the target audience that highlights demographics, needs, motivations and behaviours.

Stakeholder Interviews

(Bonus Points) If you can prove that you have gathered key insights and data about the target audience, you will be awarded bonus points. Use the results to prioritize features and define key performance indicators (KPIs).

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

Determine what KPIs will inform your design decisions – how will you measure the impact of your UX efforts.

Consumer Journey Map

Create a diagram that explores the multiple steps taken by consumers as they engage with the product. This should help frame your consumer’s motivations and needs in each step of the journey as you’ll be creating design solutions for them.

Moodboards

Compile images and references that will eventually evolve into your product’s visual style guide. 

User Flow

Create a final visual mockup of the user flow – this should be a series of interface designs that show key screens from initial user registration, to the completion of key tasks or uses of key features leveraging one or more Visa Developer APIs. 


FINAL DELIVERABLE

 

The final deliverable is a presentation that shows your final design interface and explains how your team arrived at this mobile banking and payment app experience, while also showing how the UI/UX took advantage of the various Visa Developer APIs.

 

SUBMISSIONS

A visual presentation (in PDF) that summarizes components 1 through 5, ultimately validating how you arrived at the component number 6 – the user flow designs. Submissions due November 30.

 

FINAL PITCH

The four finalists will be asked to create a widescreen (16:9) PowerPoint presentation to be presented at Mobey Day, December 8th at the Four Seasons Toronto in front of the judging panel and audience.

 

EVALUATION CRITERIA

  • Ingenuity - Shows a high degree of innovation and ability to look at a problem from a different angle.
  • Integration Effectively integrates Visa Developer APIs and ultimately addresses how your UX will change people’s behaviour to co-opt your bank of the future.

  • Engagement Engages the end user in meaningful ways.

  • Design Quality Strikes an aesthetic balance between form and function. Makes the transaction experience beautiful and easy.
  • The Pitch Creates an engaging live experience. The pitch is easy to follow and pleasing to read or watch.

THE JUDGES

The judging panel is made up of entrepreneurs, top fintech executives and a representative from one of the best UI/UX creative teams in the world.

KEY PRIZES

  • CDN $15,000 awarded to the 1st place Team - and the chance to work with Visa build a prototype of the Team’s Submission with the Visa Developer Program (opportunity to be decided at Visa’s sole discretion)

  • CDN $3,000 awarded to the 2nd place Team

  • CDN $1,000 awarded each to the 3rd and 4th place Team

TIME LINE

  • Start Date: Nov. 7, 2016
  • Final submissions: Nov. 30, 2016
  • Final four teams will be notified by 11:59pm, Dec. 2nd, 2016.  Any Team, which does not confirm its attendance in the Competition by 6:00 pm ET, Dec. 5th, 2016
  • On Dec. 8, 2016, the judges will hear the four final Teams’ presentations starting at approximately 11 am ET, at the Four Seasons Hotel Toronto, located at 60 Yorkville Ave, Toronto Ontario.
